Saturday 18/04/09 - Aston Manor - Home - Rained off

Wednesday 22/04/09 - Aston Uni - Away - Lost

After loosing the toss we were sent into bat and got off to a great start, hitting 8 off the first over. However the innings soon took a turn for the worse when Luhar was bowled for 10 after a promising start. More wickets fell and soon we found ourselves 73 for 6 after 25 overs. Mirpuri managed to salvage the innings with an unbeaton score of 66 to leave us a slight chance of victory, ending up 146 all out after 47 overs. Our responce with the ball was positive, taking regular wickets and keeping ourselves in contention, but ultimately too many extras cost us and Aston got over the line with 3 wickets to spare. A close game and one played in good spirit.

Sunday 26/04/09 - Warwick 3rd XI - Away - Won

BCU won the toss and put the hosts into bat. A great start from Badgery and Farooqui saw Warwick 29 for 3 after just 9 overs. Some good hitting from Currell and Marwar pushed the total to 107 from 23 overs but with the introduction of spin they lost wickets frequently and ended the inning 162 all out. Mirpuri topped the averages with 3-16 with Ul Mulk close behind with 3-32. A debut inning of 85* from Usman and 37* from Mirpuri gave BCU the victory and a comprehensive 10 wicket victory with 18 overs to spare. A great performance from the team and an incouraging start to the league.

Friday 01/05/09 - Birmingham 3rd XI - Away - Lost

A washed out home fixture led to a trip to Moseley  CC two days later. The fixture was played on an astro turf wicket due to heavy rain fall on the Thursday. BCU won the toss and elected to field. The home side got off to a good start before debutant Sam Buck ran Kellit (5) out with a direct hit from fine leg. BCU then moved up a gear to make the score 103 for 5 after 21 overs. A 6th wicket partnership of 89 got the hosts back on track before MIrpuri ran out Nash (31). The innings ended on 253-8 with Walder (85*) top scoring for Birmingham and captain Taylor leading the bowling with figures with 3-43. BCU began the chase confidently  with Usman (37) hitting eight fours in the first 10 overs and victory looked possible. However after a mix up between the openning pair Usman was run out to make the score 60 for 1. Wickets then began to fall far too regularly and we were bowled out for just 150 runs. The only other score of any note was Abz. Awan with 23 before he was stumped. Figures of 6-26 made Carr-Smith the outstanding performance for fielding side. A dissapointing result and plenty of areas to improve on.

Wednesday 06/05/09 - Staffordshire - Home - Lost

After loosing the toss BCU were put into bat and started positively with an opening partnership of 76 before Mirpuri was caught behind for 19. Luhar made an aggressive 60 before he was bowled. Two more wickets fell before drinks to leave the score at 134-4. Awan was next to reach his 50 but made no more after miss timing a short delivery from Kirt and was caught at square leg. The score then started to increase in the last 10 overs with Murphy also getting his half century before hitting eighteen from the last over to take him to 70 not out and set a target of 263-8 for the visitors to chase. Mandleberg bowled 3 overs before going off ill and was replaced by the 12th man Bhele for the remainder of the match. An oppening partnership of nearly two hundred put Staffordshire on top and BCU made a number of errors in the fields costing them wickets as well as runs. Guchie made 109 unbeaton and lead his team to an eight wicket victory. Farooqui was the pick of the bowlers, going for just 27 in his 10 overs. A much improved performance with the bat but BCU need to put a better all round effort in if they are to win the remainder of their matches.

Sunday 10/05/09 - Worcester - Away - Lost

We travled to the game a man down after Bansal rang in sick in the morning of the match. We batted first and made a quick fire 19 before Osman was out LBW for 14. Two more wickets fell before the 50 had come up with Taylor and Murphy now at the crease. A 73 run partnership between the two looked positive until Taylor (31) was caught off a full toss at mid on. Wickets then began to tumble, including the other mainstay of the inning Murphy (38) and suddenly what looked like a possible score of 300 ended 135 all out with four of the last five not scoring. The home side chased down the score in just 21 overs thanks mainly to a quick 47 from French althougth wickets did fall and they only got home by five wickets. The best figures were from Ul Mulk with 2-27 from his five overs.

Wednesday 13/05/09 - East Anglia - Home - Rained Off

The match lasted just 7 overs of UEA's Inning with the score at 20-0 which included two dropped catches in the slips from the bowling of Farooqui and only 4 runs comming from infront of square.

Wednesday 20/05/09 - Birmingham 2nd XI - Cup - Away - Lost

Birmingham started well were set for a big total after the being 170 for 2 after 33 overs. However a simply brilliant display of spin bowling from Ul Mulk sent the host crashing to 199 all out after 45 overs. Ul Mulk took the last 8 wickests including a brilliant hat trick. His figures were 8-39 in 9.2 overs. Poor shot selection from the top 5 put the game back in the hands of the hosts and when rain stopped play BCU were 95 for 7 and point one behind the required rate to win. The rain break did give BCU a chance as they needed 36 from 7 overs to win. After three of the overs they were on track to win but a great over from Griffin cleaned up the tail and victory was Birmingham's. A club tie was presented to Ul Mulk in honour of his Hat Trick.
