BCU Mens Cricket


   

This year Aston University hosted the first of what they want to make an anual 20/20 Cricket Festival which took place on Sunday 31st May 2009.

After Coventry Uni dropped out Aston added their 2nd XI to the event to keep it a three sided competition.

 

            The format of the day was;

 

1st game          Aston 2nd XI vs BCU                      11am - 1:30pm

2nd game         Aston 1st XI vs Aston 2nd XI            2pm - 4.30pm

3rd game          Aston 1st XI vs BCU                         5pm – 7.30pm

 

Game One - Aston 2nd XI v BCU - Won

Aston won the toss and chose to bat first. After an indifferent performance in the field an with the ball Aston managed to make a good 150 from their 20 overs leaving BCU needing 7.5 an over to win. At the half way point BCU were 77 for 3 with Taylor and Abz Awan at the crease. The two hit an impressive 85 run partnership in 49 balls to win the match with 2.5 overs to spare. Awan 41 and in what turned out to be his final inning for the team Taylor finished with an unbeaton 52.

Game Two - Aston 1st XI v Aston 2nd XI

Aston 1st XI Won by 2 wickets

Game Three - Aston 1st XI v BCU - Won

Aggressive bowling from Farooqui and Ali Awan had the hosts 40 for 4 after eight overs and in real trouble. Faultless fielding and good bowling in the last twelve overs forced Aston to crawl their way to 101 for 9 from their 20 overs. Ali Awan topped the bowling figures with 3-21 in his 4 overs. The top four showed great maturity and stuck to the required rate needed to claim victory in the 18th over. Mirpuri top scored with 34 in his final knock for the university.

BCU winning the competition and Harry Taylor finished his year as captain by lifting the trophy high in the air greated by a cheer from the rest of the team and applause from Aston who were gracious in defeat.
